Approaches for Improving Education Quality
The quality improvement principles,
methods and tools represent a proven approach for
improving quality in any aspect of life including
Education at the K-12 level. This page was developed
to provide an example of initiatives and programs
that can help support improvements in education
quality.
Many
organizations throughout the country have a vested
interest in improving the quality of schools within
their communities. In Indianapolis, Lilly Endowment
provided a grant of $80 million to Marion county
(Indianapolis) schools to fund school innovations
that will lead to systemic improvements in education
quality. Directory
of Marion (Indianapolis) County Schools. Listing
for public schools are on pages 71-72 and nonpublic
schools on pages 101-102).
Two
recommended programs that can result in sustained
improvement in both the short and long-term are
the application of the Baldrige Criteria for Performance
Excellence and the American Society for Quality
(ASQ's) Koalaty Kid (K-12). Information on both
of these programs to include support resources at
the national and local level, are provided below.
ASQ
is the administrator for the Baldrige Award and
has sections located throughout the world. IndyASQ,
the Indianapolis Section of ASQ, was one of the
founding members of ASQ and has been providing quality
leadership in the Indianapolis community since 1944.
