Topic: Use of First Principles based analysis to improve decision making in manufacturingIn this talk the idea of using First Principles analysis to improve decision making in manufacturing will be explored. In manufacturing, as in other areas of an organization, making good decisions is a key part of creating operational excellence. Good decisions can only be made if we have the ability to accurately predict the performance of a system for any proposed configuration. First Principles analysis can provide an effective and efficient way to predict this performance. This talk will cover:

  1. a. The three phases of manufacturing.
  2. b. Why good decision making is key.
  3. c. Good decisions can only be made if we have the ability to accurately predict the performance of a system for any proposed configuration.
  4. d. What are First Principles?
  5. e. When does First Principles analysis make sense?
  6. f. How do we implement a First Principles analysis?
  7. g. Some examples from Lilly manufacturing.
